The Imo State Correspondent of Channels TV, Tope Kutiyi who was kidnapped in the wee hours of Monday, April 11, 2016 by unknown gunmen has regained his freedom.
His release was followed by intense manhunt mounted by the Imo State Police Command, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP. Taiwo Lakanu who combed every nook and cranny of the state to rescue the journalist.
Lakanu, had shortly after the kidnap of Kutiyi led a team of over 100 operatives of the Command for the rescue operation.
The “Operation Bush-Combing” took place at Ohuba in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state, where intelligence report revealed that the victim was in captivity.
Our correspondent gathered that after a 3-hour search operation in the village and adjoining forests, the kidnappers were under pressure to release their victim who was subsequently rescued unhurt on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016.
A release made available to newsmen in Owerri by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Andrew Enwerem revealed that the notorious kidnap suspects involved in the kidnap of the victim had been identified and were on the run.
According to the police command, intensive investigation is in progress to ensure the arrest of the suspects and subsequent prosecution.
His words, “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State wishes to use this opportunity to appreciate the contributions of friends of the victim and other well-meaning individuals, who were in solidarity with the police as the rescue operation lasted”.
