WIKE: Why I didn’t support Peter Obi, Igbo presidency

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has finally vent his mind on reason why he did not support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi at the Feb. 25 election because nobody discussed Igbo presidency with him. According to NAN, Publicity Secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, stated on Friday in Enugu that Wike made the declaration at a meeting in Port Harcourt on Thursday. Dr Alex Ogbonnia stated this during the meeting held in Enugu, Ohaneze Ndigbo also confronted Wike over his alleged role against Obi during the just compleated presidential election. Ogbonnia stated that Wike expressed surprise that Ohanaeze are still on a fact-finding mission and would explain his role in the presidential election. It is worthy to know that Southern Governors Forum first met at Asaba and agreed that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari, said by Rivers governor. He also explained that the governors later met in Enugu in September 2021 to reaffirm their position for power to shift to the South. He stated that throughout the meetings, “the issue of presidency to the Southeast was not discussed. YOU MAY ALSO LIKE:BRT Bus Collided With A Train In Lagos The governor expressed anger that during the PDP presidential primary election, that several prominent people of the Southeast betrayed him and sabotaged the Southern interest by voting for a candidate from the northern part. Wike proudly said that he refused to provide a campaign ground for his party presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He further stated that what is circulating in the social media is the handiwork of Wike adversaries. “I am a man with the courage of my convictions and have no reasons to tell lies or to owe an apology to anyone. “I am always ready to defend my actions any day and at any time, and I did not rig the presidential election against Obi,’’ Ogbonnia quoted Wike as having said. It is only time that will tell who rigged the election, as for me am just watching like every nigerian. It is only the court that will decide. The Rivers State government under the auspices of Nyesom Wike have started the demolition of the popular Ikoku spare parts market in Port Harcourt.

We gathered that the land was sold to a rivers firm in portharcourt.

Also a flyover was also proposed to be built in the area that the market is.

Nyesom Wike’s administration On 11 October 2019, announced plans for the relocation of the spare parts market and mechanic work shops out of the present Ikoku area and the Port Harcourt city.

The government, however, did not build an alternative market for the traders but provided a parcel of land at the Iriebe area of Obio-Akpor LGA.

People said Wike bought the land from the owners.

There was a quit notice  from the state government in June 2020, a 3-week quit notice was given to the traders, mechanics and dealers at the Spare Parts Market to vacate the area.

Chairman of the traders, High Chief Anthony Alaribole Iwu, had said that they are still hopeful that their request for more time would be granted.

He said that their shops were broken into, and called on the Rivers State Government to intervene in the matter by prevailing on those behind the quit notice to be more patient with them, as it would not be too easy for the traders to organize themselves and rent shops within just three weeks given the challenges they had faced since this year.

There are a lot of speculation about the Ikoku Spare Parts Market some said the land was sold to investors who want to build a school. While others maintain that the investors are foreign businessmen, also Rivers State Government.

In Portharcourt the Rivers State capital the Governor Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike disclose the decision behind demolition of two hetel in the state.

The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike provides the decision behind demolition of two hotels in Rivers state by him. 

The governor claim that people are playing politics with the demolition in regards to the action.

Further he posited Rivers government did not have any issues against the two  hotels, but the governor insist the decision to be of interest of the people.

Wike has come with explanation on the demolition over alleged violation of executive order,on tuesday, May 26, in a State briefing Wike reveal the decision was not unilaterally taken but the Rivers security council was also involved in the action taken criti. 

Many Nigerians criticized the decision also deemed wrong by a human rights group SERAP which later dragged Wike to the ECOWAS Court. 

The two hotels were asked to shutdown their activities because of some cases of COVID-19 were recorded in hotels according to the governor. 

Rivers state government will not on intentionally close down hotels and we have anything against hoteliers in the state.

The demolition of Prodest Hotel and Etemeteh Hotel in Eleme Local Government Area by the state government became necessary because the owners failed to comply with Executive Order 7," said Wike.

Meanwhile another politicians Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education and solid minerals retreated the action saying the action of the governor is suggestive of "unaccountable governance style of the inglorious military era lacking "self-discipline in the absence of social accountability.
