How 148 Confirmed Dead In Bokkos Attack Survivors Narrates

Plateau Massacre Survivors

Residents of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas of Plateau State the recently attacked communities believed that they wouldn’t celebrate this year’s Christmas with their loved ones in peace, especially as many had already begun the festivities in their own way. 

The attacks came at the time when people were preparing to celebrate Christmas, and the occurrence brought tears over  the Christmas celebration, not only in the affected communities but also across the state, as lives and properties were lost in the heinous act. 

The Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Monday Kassah, was yesterday disclosed that the attacks which took place between Saturday night and Monday morning, claimed 148 lives, including women and children, leaving hundreds injured. 

Vice President Kashim Shettima, during a condolence visit to the family members in the affected communities said 1,290 houses, 82 vehicles and 187 motorcycles were burned in the 25 communities that the attack took place. 

During his speech at the Central Stadium Bokkos, where displaced people are temporarily seeking refuge.

The Vice President noted that there was anger, resentment and depression on the faces of the survivors. 

Christian Emmanuel a survivor of the attack narrated that during the incident he started running but they were able to run faster than me, then I fell down, i begged them to leave me but they refused. They caught me and shot me and shot me again. 

Christian Emmanuel is currently receiving treatment at Alheri Clinic Bokkos.  

Another victim, Marry Samuel, said she would live to remember what she went through during the attack, that it was like a horror movie. After dinner we started hearing people screaming. Our husbands started running seeking for refuge. I lost my husband, brothers and children. Almost everything destroyed. 

We were in the bush hiding the attackers did not see us. We trekked for long distances during the night. 

I lost 12 people in the family said Marry.

Another survivor, Tabita Timothy, said she witnessed many people were killed during the attack, It was a slaughter fest for the attackers on our people.

I lost my siblings. I lost my children. I don’t know if my husband is alive, we are calling on the government to intervene.

We were cooking night food when the gunmen invaded my village said Rifkatu Sati. 

I narrowly escaped the attack, I lost the breadwinners of my family and now I don't know who would help me for the rest of my life. 

We heard gunshots everywhere I lost seven people. now I don’t know where some of my children and grandchildren are.  

It was when the security personnel arrived in our community, then we came out of the bush. 

The victims said they have never seen what they saw before, we didn’t go to church. We didn’t celebrate Christmas. 

It was until the security personnel arrived in our community that we emerged from the bush.

Dorat David, I lost my husband, mother and children during the attack, I would live with the experience of the attack in my memory. 

We ran into bush for safety and my daughter needed to relieve herself and moved a little further away. Suddenly, the attackers spotted her and opened fire on us. I am the only survivor.  

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, while addressing the IDPs on Wednesday, assured them that the government would do everything within its power to address their problems.
