Aiyedatiwa Secures Massive Victory in Ondo Governorship Election
Gov Aiyedatiwa |
In a remarkable show of support, Aiyedatiwa, the APC candidate, swept all 18 local government areas, amassing a staggering 248,000 votes more than his nearest competitor. The election's Returning Officer, Olayemi Akinwumi, who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University in Lokoja, Kogi State, declared Aiyedatiwa the winner on Sunday, ensuring his continued leadership from the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure. The incumbent governor of Ondo State, often referred to as the Sunshine State, garnered 366,781 votes, decisively defeating Ajayi Agboola, the former deputy governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 117,845 votes—less than half of Aiyedatiwa's total.
At precisely 2:30 pm at the INEC collation center in Akure, the Returning Officer stated, “That Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.” This announcement followed several hours of result collation, which began early that Sunday morning. Despite breaks taken during the process, the APC maintained a solid lead, finishing with more than a 200,000 vote margin over the PDP.
The final tally confirmed the APC's dominance in the election, marking a resounding victory across all local government areas.
