The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, has announced the disbandment of a local vigilance group OSPAC.

He said they disbanded OSPAC to check their excesses and high arrogance in their operations.

This is one of the resolutions reached during the security meeting of Obio/Akpor local government that was held for the Executive chamber of the council on Monday, November 11th, 2024. Heads of security agencies for Obio/Akpor LGA attended the meeting.

Journalists were addressed after the meeting, the Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor local government, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, said the decision to disband OSPAC with immediate effect is to regulate their activities going forward.

"From today, we ban OSPAC for Obio/Akpor. By tomorrow, we will meet with the leadership and members of OSPAC in our LGA. This is because some paramount rulers use OSPAC to fight their rivals. We intend to profile members of this group to know why they carry arms and for what purpose. Sometimes, you see most of them dressed in black attire and carrying guns without approval from the police. We have notified the commissioner of police of this move and that is why we will meet with them tomorrow. If you go to Alakahia, they have two OSPACs, same in Akpor and we won't allow this to continue. They have used this to loot people, some of them have cells where they lock innocent people. This is unacceptable and we don't want this to continue now we are in charge of the affairs of the council.
